The Toledo Museum of Art has launched a center dedicated to training workplace employees on safety issues through visual literacy.

The Center of Visual Expertise, or COVE, is an expansion of the museum’s visual literacy program in art education, which uses the museum’s art collection to teach individuals to better see and understand their surroundings. The program is a key part of the museum’s curriculum under director Brian Kennedy.

COVE training focuses on the prevention of injuries and fatalities in the workplace by teaching employees to better see and act on their surroundings.

COVE will be operated out of the museum on Monroe Street. Douglas Pontsler will serve as chairman and managing director of COVE. He was formerly vice president of operations sustainability and environmental, health and safety for Owens Corning. Financial details of his hiring were not released by the museum.
