  • BOWLING GREEN — The Bowling Green State University men’s basketball team has added another player as 6-10 center Tayler Mattos announced that he was joining the program.

Mattos is a 6-10 native of North Sutton, N.H., who was a two-time New Hampshire state player of the year at Kearsarge Regional High School, which is about 30 miles from Concord.

“Tayler will give us another dynamic option at the center position,” BG coach Michael Huger said in a release. “At an athletic 6-10 and 235 pounds, Tayler has terrific length, size, and mobility.

“He has a well-rounded skill set in the post and can extend all the way to the 3-point line. While he is young for his grade, my staff and I believe Tayler’s best basketball is ahead of him and he will develop into a special player at Bowling Green.”

As a senior at Kearsarge Regional, Mattos averaged 25.6 points, 13.4 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, and 3.0 assists per game and was voted the top Division II player in the state. In his junior year, Mattos was the state’s Division III player of the year after averaging 26 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocks per game while leading the Cougars to a state title.

“The thing about Bowling Green state stood out to me was the people,” Mattos told the Concord Monitor newspaper after visiting the school last weekend. “The relationships that I made in just a few days with all the people are just great, and they’re down-to-earth people and that’s what the difference-maker was for me.”

Mattos is the fourth player who will join the Bowling Green program in the fall. The Falcons also have signed two junior-college players, forward Marlon Sierra and guard Mike Laster, along with high school guard Caleb Fields.
