Peters enters bowl practice as No. 1 QB

Michigan quarterback Brandon Peters (18) is the No. 1 quarterback on the roster entering bowl practices.

ANN ARBOR — Michigan is entering bowl practices with Brandon Peters as the No. 1 quarterback, coach Jim Harbaugh said.

Peters, a redshirt freshman, started three consecutive games in November until he suffered a concussion at Wisconsin in the second-to-last game. John O’Korn started in place of Peters in the Wolverines’ 31-20 loss to Ohio State.

Peters cleared concussion protocol last week and returned to all team activities.

Michigan’s quarterback situation has been touch-and-go all season. Wilton Speight started the season-opener against Florida and was briefly benched during the first half when he threw consecutive pick-sixes. He then suffered a season-ending injury Sept. 23 at Purdue after fracturing three back vertebrae.

O’Korn started the next four games — two losses (Michigan State and Penn State) — before Peters supplanted him during the first half versus Rutgers Oct. 28.

Peters, who began the season as the third-string quarterback, completed 37 of 64 pass attempts for 486 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He and true freshman Dylan McCaffrey are the only scholarship quarterbacks remaining on the roster following the transfers of Speight and redshirt sophomore Alex Malzone.

The quarterback meeting room could add a new body soon if Ole Miss QB Shea Patterson commits to Michigan.
