BOWLING GREEN – Bowling Green State University hired another former Detroit Lion for its coaching staff as LaMarcus Hicks was named the new secondary coach.

Hicks spent the past two seasons as safeties coach at Jackson State University in Jackson, Miss. Hicks also has coached collegiately at North Texas State, Concordia, and Rhodes College.

"I am very grateful to join the BGSU coach staff and a program that has great tradition," Hicks said in a release. "I want to thank coach [Mike] Jinks and coach Carl Pelini for this opportunity.

“I'm looking forward to coaching this group of young men and helping them achieve goals on the football field and off the field as well."

As a player, Hicks finished his college career at Iowa State, where as a senior safety in 2006 he led the Big 12 with five interceptions. He was a two-time All-Big 12 pick who finished with 12 tackles in his pro career with the Lions.

Hicks is the third new coach on the Falcons reworked defensive staff entering the 2018 season, joining new defensive coordinator Pelini and defensive line coach Jimmy Williams, who also played for the Lions during his NFL career.
