Bowling Green men's hoops signs Sierra to national letter of intent

BOWLING GREEN — The Bowling Green State University men’s basketball program signed forward Marlon Sierra to a national letter of intent, the school announced Tuesday.

Sierra is a 6-foot-6 Miami native who spent the past two seasons at Western Nebraska Community College. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

He led Western Nebraska to a 27-8 mark last season, including the program’s first trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association national tournament since 2001. Last season Sierra averaged 12.3 points, a team-best 6.8 rebounds, and also 2.5 assists per game.

Sierra showed the ability to hit 3-pointers, connecting on 33 of 71 shots from the arc (46.5 percent), and he also made 71.6 percent of his free throws. He posted five double-doubles, including 15 points and 10 rebounds in the game that clinched the Cougars’ national championship berth.

RELATEDFalcons look to rebound from poor finish last season.

“Marlon will bring some toughness and grit to our power forward position,” BG coach Michael Huger said in a release. “He has terrific situational awareness and can affect the game in multiple ways.

“His rebounding, physicality, and ability to score will make him a valuable piece of our team the next two seasons.”

Sierra is the third player who will be added to the Falcons roster next season, joining guards Caleb Fields and Mike Laster.
