  • The trial of two men charged in a fatal shooting outside a local convenience store has been scheduled for June 19.

Lucas County Common Pleas Judge James Bates set the trial Tuesday for Alexander Williams, 31, of the 1800 block of Perth Street on charges of aggravated murder and murder in the Sept. 9 death of George Smith outside 7-Eleven, 1101 Western Ave.

Going to trial for the second time that day will be Davonte Nicholson, 21, of the 1000 block of Avondale Avenue. His trial on the same charges ended April 28 with a hung jury.

A third man prosecutors charged in the daytime slaying, Demarcus Lawhorn, 26, of the 1000 block of Nebraska Avenue pleaded guilty March 20 to reduced charges of involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault. As part of the plea agreement, he testified at Nicholson’s first trial.
