A Toledo man charged in a drive-by shooting pleaded no contest Wednesday to two weapons charges.

David Estis, Jr., 19, of the 4600 block of Harford Road was then found guilty by Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Gary Cook of carrying a concealed weapon and improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle. He faces up to three years in prison when he is sentenced Nov. 8.

Mark Herr, an assistant county prosecutor, asked the court to dismiss more serious charges of felonious assault and abduction against Estis “due to a lack of cooperation by witnesses,” but reserved the right to re-file the charges at a later date.

All of the charges stemmed from a July incident near Broadway and Lorain streets in which shots were fired from a vehicle at Estis' former girlfriend's car. Five other indviduals were inside the vehicle. Mr. Herr said when police stopped Estis' vehicle afterward, they found a handgun hidden in a door panel.
