West Toledo landlord accused of shooting tenant during dispute

A Toledo landlord who admitted shooting a man in the leg at an apartment building he owned was indicted Tuesday by a Lucas County grand jury.

Omar Bazzy, 47, of the 3000 block of Powhattan Parkway was indicted on charges of felonious assault and a gun specification in the April 12 wounding of Michael Lawrence at an apartment building in the 3100 block of Sherbrooke Road in West Toledo. Toledo police did not initially charge Mr. Bazzy.

“Evidence received during the investigation, the state believes, demonstrates that he was not defending himself” when he fired, said Jeff Lingo, chief of the criminal division of the Lucas County Prosecutor's Office.
