There are consequences when do-gooder organizations in the U.S. interfere with international situations.

An example is playing out in Mexico where a caravan of displaced Central Americans is wending its way through Mexico towards the border with the United States.

Publications have attributed the organization of the caravan to the U.S.-based group Pueblo Sin Fronteras, which roughly translates to “people without borders.” Pueblo Sin Fronteras has been organizing this annual caravan since 2010 without anyone taking much notice.

It wasn’t counting on Fox News and President Donald Trump. While the threat posed by this humble caravan of frightened Central Americans may be overstated by some politicians and TV pundits, they aren’t wrong in principle.

Very little is known about Pueblo Sin Fronteras. The group’s web page, at pueblosinfronteras.org, offers little information. It says its mission is to “provide shelter and safety to migrants and refugees in transit, accompany them in their journey, and together demand respect for our human rights.”

The only way to find out anything about the organization from its website is to agree to make a financial contribution. There one learns it is based in La Crescenta, California.

Pueblo Sin Fronteras encourages people living in repressive countries in Central America, such as Honduras, to join a caravan that has as its goal to attempt to win them asylum as political refugees in the U.S., and if that fails, to have them in a position to possibly sneak across the U.S. border illegally.

It’s laudable if Pueblo Sin Fronteras or any other organization offers aid to people in distressed situations. To create more distress, which PSF seems to do by organizing this caravan, is to use vulnerable people as pawns to achieve political goals of abolishing or weakening national boundaries.

No American-based organization should be engaged in undermining American sovereignty, which is what Pueblo Sin Fronteras is doing. It needs to reconsider its practices and quit putting people in even more danger than they already are.
