Schools reschedule standarized testing because of statewide computer problem

Ohio school districts were forced to reschedule their online state standardized testing Wednesday because of a statewide computer system issue. 

“The Ohio Department of Education was informed [Wednesday] morning by AIR [Ohio’s testing vendor] of a problem with its login system for accessing tests,” Brittany Halpin, spokesman for the Ohio Department of Education, wrote in an email.

Later in the day, she said the issue had been resolved and schools should resume testing Thursday.

Toledo Public Schools was among the districts affected. School districts schedule a testing window, which spans a few weeks, to complete the state testing.

TPS is in the third week of its testing window. Therefore not many students were affected by the unexpected malfunction, a district spokesman said.

Sylvania schools started testing this week, and will have to reschedule the testing that students were slated to take Wednesday morning, Superintendent Adam Fineske said.

“The kids were ready to go but now everything is pretty calm,” he said.

Students are tested in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies depending on their grade level. A school district’s report card is based on the results of the test.

In addition to TPS and Sylvania, local districts affected by the statewide login error included Washington Local and Maumee schools.
