NEWPORT, Mich. — DTE Energy said Monday the 18th refueling and maintenance outage for its Fermi 2 nuclear plant in northern Monroe County is going smoothly.
The plant, which has called in more than 1,200 contractors to supplement its regular work crew, shut down Saturday. Fermi 2 is on 18-month refueling cycles; some other plants, such as FirstEnergy Corp.’s Davis-Besse nuclear plant, can go two years between outages.
FirstEnergy’s Perry nuclear plant east of Cleveland, which shut down March 5 for refueling, remained idle Monday. Refuelings typically take at least a month.
