  • Today’s Cheap Eats feature is the House of Omelets, tucked unassumingly into a strip mall in West Toledo. The large, well-lit space is staffed by people whose personalities are just as bright and cheerful.

Its menu offers a wide range of breakfasts that meet our $5 per person maximum budget. An egg sandwich on a bagel, English muffin, or toast that includes meat and cheese costs $3.97. A short stack of pancakes is a mere $2.97, and for $4.57 can be topped with strawberries, blueberries, or chocolate chips; another option at the higher price is to serve the plate with two eggs on the side.

Lunch and dinner specials are where some of the best deals are waiting. For $4.97 an open-faced gyro fills a plate with crispy meat, lettuce, tomato, onions, and a generous dollop of sauce; this is also available with chicken.

Gyros, burgers, and, of course, eggs all cost $5 or less at House of Omelets.

The list of other options available for $5 or less is extensive: burgers (plain, with cheese, mushroom Swiss, bacon cheese, or a patty melt), a tuna melt, tuna or chicken salad, two chili dogs, a BLT, grilled cheese, or a fish fillet. Hearty bowls of soup cost $3.97, while chili is $4.27.

And don’t forget desserts, such as a slice of the pie of the day for only $2.97 or homemade cheesecake for $3.87.

Whether you’re looking for breakfast or lunch options to go with the friendly smiles, you’ll find hearty portions at great prices at House of Omelets.
