While it used to happen less often in the past (or at least more subtly) for a politician to say one thing and do the opposite, it appears Toledo Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson has opted to use a page from the Donald Trump playbook.
She told The Blade: “One of my goals is to get younger folks to engage in civic activities. One of the first and best ways to get involved is to serve on boards and commissions” (March 10, “2 opponents of Kroger off zoning panel”).
But who is she considering to name as a replacement? A 77-year-old, Bernard “Pete” Culp.
The mayor is also quoted in the same article saying “I am making sure any appointment I make does not have a conflict.”
The conflict, mayor, appears to be with your own words.

All kinds of Toledo talent
The Rev. Ronald Olszewski just touched the tip of the iceberg (March 15, “St. Francis believes in Toledo”).
All the private and public schools in Toledo and the Toledo area are overflowing with talent. I have five talented kids myself — a daughter with a master’s in geo-science, another who’s a lawyer in Columbus, and three amazing sons, all successful in their chosen endeavors and great fathers and husbands and coaches and soldiers. Their wives and significant others are all multitalented. I’ve got talented friends with talented kids, and you should see my grandkids. Talent to burn!
If the CEO of Hickory Farms, or any company for that matter, can’t find talent in Toledo, they’re not looking very hard.
