Anestie Brazzel of Toledo pushes other kids around on a spinning ride at Swan Creek Metropark in Toledo.
Parks hold a special place in my heart.
Growing up in the Toledo area, I cherished the time that I was able to spend outdoors. As a child, I remember going to Olander Park for a fishing derby, spending time with my grandfather, hoping my bobber would start going wild. Looking back, those experiences helped shape my life in ways that I wouldn’t change.
This love for parks continues to this day. Whether it’s a lazy Saturday afternoon spent picnicking, or an evening stroll with my wife, parks remain a vital part of my life.
That is why it is important that we support our local park districts. The Olander Park System and Metroparks Toledo are both on the ballot this November for levies.
Both of these levies are important to northwest Ohio. So, whether you are voting early, or going to the polls on Nov. 7, be sure to vote for the Olander Parks or Metroparks Toledo levies. We all benefit.
Gun industry running America
In the immediate aftermath of the Las Vegas shootings, politicians and government officials were quick to offer condolences and sympathy. Yet, these same politicians over recent years have been slow to pass legislation concerning the proliferation of guns in United States society.
The gun culture continues to grow. Could it be that the United States populace is being governed by big business and big money instead of good government?

Manners are not out of style yet
I respectfully disagree with Keith Burris’ Oct. 1 column, “The decent drapery of life.”
There’s plenty of civility and manners still in abundance and being taught daily to our youth. Granted, it may be harder to see when the country’s leader sets such a bad example and the Internet has emboldened uncivil discourse, but it’s still there.
We learn manners by example, and I see plenty of parents and authority figures still leading by example.
