MONROE — The Frenchtown Township Board voted 6-1 to rezone 274 acres for the future ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.

The board on Tuesday approved a planned unit development agreement, meaning the hospital can now buy the parcel. River Raisin Golf Course and land east of the I-75-North Dixie Highway interchange are included.

ProMedica announced plans in August for the hospital, which will replace Monroe Regional Hospital.

The design and planning phase of the project won’t begin until next year. Construction is to start in 2020.
