Glass City Film Festival returns to Toledo

  • The Glass City Film Festival runs Thursday through Sunday at multiple locations in Toledo, including the Toledo Museum of Art, Collingwood Arts Center, and Ohio Theatre and Event Center.

    The festival, which launched in 2015, celebrates the art of filmmaking with a wide variety of short and feature-length films and documentaries. Its screenings on Thursday at Handmade Toledo, 1717 Adams St., specifically showcase local filmmakers.

    ■ Oregon Fest promises an afternoon of community entertainment on Dustin Road, Oregon, on Sunday. Games, rides, and live entertainment are in the lineup between noon and 6 p.m., as well as a classic car show and food, business, and craft vendors. The grand parade kicks off at 4 p.m.

    On Saturday, the day before the festival, a “give and take plant exchange” invites the community to trade and upgrade their garden offerings. Drop off begins at 9 a.m. in the tent behind the ABC Warehouse and Pat Catan’s on Dustin Road; the exchange begins at 10 a.m.

    ■ Stayin’ Alive brings the music of the Bee Gees to Hollywood Casino Toledo, 1968 Miami St., on Friday. The tribute band takes concert-goers back to the 1970s with hits like “Night Fever,” “Jive Talkin’,” “How Deep Is Your Love,” and “You Should be Dancing.”

    Stayin’ Alive performs in the H Lounge at 9 p.m. as part of the casino’s “Pop, Rock 'n' Roll” summer entertainment series. Admission is free, but you must be 21 to attend. For more information, go to hollywoodcasinotoledo.com.

    ■ The Toledo Speedway hosts the Menards 200, described as the venue’s biggest race of the season, on Sunday.

    Practice laps and qualifiers are Saturday. Spectators are invited to begin their race day Sunday with an on-track driver autograph session between noon and 1 p.m. Racing begins at 2 p.m.

    The Menards 200 is part of the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) racing series. The track is at 5639 Benore Rd. Tickets are $15 at participating area Menards and $25 general admission at the gate. Children 6 and younger are free. For more information, go to toledospeedway.com.
