Jobin to exit Toledo Symphony

In June, Sarah Jobin will debut with the Los Angeles Opera and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. She has been in Toledo for three years.

After three years with the Toledo Symphony, resident conductor Sara Jobin will leave her post at the end of the 2017-18 season. She will also leave her position with the Toledo Opera.
“It has been such a privilege to work with the musicians of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra regularly for these three years,” Jobin said. “Not only are they fantastic musicians, but they are also fantastic people and an amazingly supportive community of professionals.”
Of the Toledo Opera, she said: “The opera has also been very good to me, producing my first Vanessa and also calling on me on short notice to lead Romeo and Juliet last year in addition to Madama Butterfly when I first arrived. I am specifically grateful to Maestro James Meena for following my career for 20 years. He was instrumental in creating the joint symphony-opera position, which I moved to Toledo to fulfill. It has been an honor to serve both organizations.”
Beginning July 1, Jobin will move to Richmond, Va., and serve as music director for the Inayati Order, an interfaith mystical fellowship. In June, Jobin will debut with the Los Angeles Opera and next season with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and she remains chief conductor of the Center for Contemporary Opera in New York.
Jobin’s last performance as resident conductor in Toledo with be the June 1 KeyBank Pops Series appearance by the Indigo Girls, but she will return to Toledo to conduct Handel’s Messiah on Dec. 2.
■ The Toledo Symphony Welltower Mozart and More Series welcomes pianists Michael Boyd and Ryan Behan in Mozart’s Concertos 7 and 23 along with Haydn’s Symphony No. 49 at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Franciscan Center, Lourdes University, 6832 Convent Blvd., Sylvania.
The Toledo Symphony Andersons Family Series presents a Showcase of Young Talent with 2017 Young Artist Competition winners performing with the symphony at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Valentine Theatre, 400 N. Superior St.

■ NOW Ensemble, a dynamic group of performers and composers, brings a fresh sound and a new perspective to the classical tradition. The unique instrumentation of flute, clarinet, electric guitar, double bass, and piano performs at 8 p.m. Friday at the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle, 2445 Monroe St. Tickets are $10 museum members and $15 for nonmembers and are available at 419-255-8000 or toledomuseum.org.

■ The Transcontinental Sax Quartet presents a recital at 3 p.m. Sunday. Praecepta, the student chapter of the Society of Composers Inc., gives a performance of members’ composition at 8 p.m. Tuesday. ■ The Toledo Swiss Singers present an interactive dinner-theater mystery, Murder! Under the Big Top. The event features fabulous acts, exotic performers, mysterious management along with musical performances. The whodunit, written and directed by Jane Williams, requires the audience to deduce the culprit. The event, including a dinner of chicken schnitzel, sides, dessert, cash bar, and the entertainment, begins at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 24 and 3:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Chalet at Oak Shade Grove, 3624 Seaman Rd., Oregon.
