Clyde man tries to outrun police, dies in crash

CLYDE, Ohio — A police chase early Friday ended in a driver’s death when the man crashed his car into a tree.

Roderick D. Rohm, 53, of Clyde was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near Woodland Avenue and Maple Street in Clyde.

Just after 3:20 a.m. Friday, Clyde police tried to stop the car, which had expired tags. The driver sped off on Woodland at an estimated 100 mph and tried to turn onto Maple Street when the officer lost sight of the vehicle.

The officer, who according to a news release was about to call off the chase, found the car wrapped around a tree.
