Authorities have identified Brian Roberts of Toledo as the man who was found fatally shot Monday in West Toledo, authorities said.
Mr. Roberts, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene, Toledo police said. An autopsy at the Lucas County Coroner’s Office was scheduled today.
Police responding to a report of “a man lying in the street by a running car” arrived about 8:06 p.m. and found the victim in the middle of the street, with the car near him in the 2000 block of Barrows Street, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, Lt. Joe Heffernan, police spokesman, said.
Lieutenant Heffernan said police think that’s where the shooting occurred.
Bill McCauley, 59, a neighbor, said he was having supper about 8 p.m. when he heard and saw police cars and fire trucks “coming flying down the street.” He had not heard any gunshots, he said.
Mr. McCauley said he then came out of his house and saw paramedics trying to resuscitate the victim, who was lying in the road.
“Not since I’ve been here,” he said when asked whether any shootings occurred on the block in the past four years he has lived in the house.
Police don’t have a motive or suspects, according to the spokesman.
The incident is being investigated as a homicide, police said.
The death is the third homicide in Toledo and the metro area this year.
