Monroe man suffers serious injuries after being struck by car

MONROE — A Monroe man was hospitalized with serious injuries after he was struck by a car Friday in Frenchtown Township.

The man, 38, was walking southbound about 5:55 a.m. in the northbound right lane of North Monroe Street near Hurd Road when he was struck by a northbound car driven by Stephen Chapman, Jr., 25, of Monroe, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

The injured man, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was taken to Beaumont Trenton Hospital in Trenton, Mich., deputies said.

Mr. Chapman was not injured, and neither speed nor alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the report. The case remains under investigation, and anyone with information about it was asked to call 734-240-7711.
