East Toledo man struck in head with sledge hammer, phone taken

An East Toledo man was struck in the head with a sledge hammer late Tuesday after an unknown man and woman broke into his home and took his cell phone. 

Brian Garee, age not reported, of the 600 block of Woodville Road, was awoken by a man pointing a handgun in his face, according to a Toledo police report. The incident occurred sometime between 11 p.m. and midnight, according to the police report. 

Mr. Garee grabbed the gun, which was actually made of plastic.

The man then grabbed a sledge hammer and struck Mr. Garee in the head, police said. 

The woman sprayed Mr. Garee with a cleaning solution, according to police.

The two suspects took Mr. Garee’s cell phone and fled.

Mr. Garee was transported to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Hospital, where he was treated and released, police said.
