  • Longtime Perrysburg Fire Chief Jeff Klein is resigning his position, effective October 6th.

“Chief Klein has been at the forefront of many of the positive changes and developments that have taken place at the Perrysburg Fire Division over the last several years,” a city Facebook post read. “Chief Klein’s leadership and commitment to his duties has been instrumental to the Division’s success and getting us to the point today where we are building a second fire station.”

Deputy Chief Rudy Ruiz will be Acting Fire Chief effective October 7th.

Chief Klein began working for the department in 1991, and has been the department’s chief since 2007.

“While we have a number of on-going projects, Deputy Chief Ruiz and I have always believed the leadership of the Fire Division is a partnership between all of our members,” his resignation letter read, in part. “We are lucky to have a team of outstanding members currently working on these projects.”

He said his new position has not been officially confirmed yet, so he would not disclose his next step.

“The chief’s been instrumental to where we are today,” Perrysburg Mayor Mike Olmstead said. “I wish him well in his new endeavors.”

Mr. Olmstead said he intends to nominate Chief Ruiz to become the permanent chief of the department. City council would have to approve that nomination.

Chief Ruiz has been with the city of Perrysburg since 2015.
