Search for man prompts at least one school lockdown

Lucas County Sheriff’s deputies searched Wednesday for a possibly suicidal Indiana man who was reportedly driving around Springfield Township, according to Det. Lt. Dave Carter.

The man was not located as of Wednesday afternoon, Detective Lieutenant Carter said.

“There is no indication that there’s any real threat to the public,” he said.

As a precautionary measure, Dorr Street Elementary School, 1206 King Rd., went on lock down soon after the incident was reported at approximately 8:40 a.m. Wednesday.

Deputies searched the area throughout the morning and well into the afternoon, he said. The man was reportedly driving a 2007 red pick-up truck with Indiana plates and an eagle sticker on the back.

The suspect is from Indiana, but he is originally from the area and he may still have ties to the area, Detective Lieutenant Carter said.

Posts related to suicide on the man’s Facebook page caused friends or family to notify authorities, Detective Lieutenant Carter said. After officials pinged his cell phone, he was tracked to be in the McCord Road and Nebraska Avenue area.

Anyone with information on the man’s whereabouts should contact the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office at 419-213-4960 or 911.
