The Rochester Red Wings hit five home runs in a 14-3 rout Thursday against the Toledo Mud Hens at Frontier Field.

Taylor Motter, Jon Kemmer, Tyler Austin, Jeremy Hazelbaker, and Kennys Vargas each homered as the Red Wings dominated from the start in what was a bullpen game for Toledo. The Mud Hens lost two of three in the series.

What happened: Rochester leadoff hitter Motter blasted a home run on the first at bat of the bottom of the first inning. The Red Wings added three more runs in the opening inning on a Vargas sacrifice fly and a two-run homer from Kemmer to grab an early 4-0 lead. In the second, Austin added a three-run homer to give the Red Wings a 7-0 advantage.

Toledo got on the board in the top of the third, when Harold Castro and Kade Scivicque hit back-to-back doubles. Rochester added four more in the third, when Vargas scored on an error on Mud Hens second baseman Dawel Lugo, Edgar Corcino picked up an RBI groundout, and Hazelbaker hit a two-run homer. The Red Wings led 11-1 at that point.

Vargas recorded his second sacrifice fly in the fourth for another Red Wings run. Lugo doubled home Jacob Robson in the sixth and came around to score on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 12-3. Vargas then hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh.

Game MVP: Vargas was 2 for 3, adding a double.

Comings and goings: Pitcher Nick Tepesch was assigned to the Mud Hens. He was acquired in a trade between the Detroit Tigers and the Toronto Blue Jays earlier this week.

Make a note of it: Mud Hens starter Phillippe Aumont allowing seven earned runs in his two innings of work. ... Kade Scivicque was 1 for 3 in his return to the Mud Hens lineup after being assigned to Toledo from Lakeland on Wednesday.

A look ahead: The Mud Hens open a three game series at Buffalo at 7:05 p.m. Friday. Left-hander Ryan Carpenter (2-7, 5.07 ERA) is the starter for Toledo. Thomas Pannone (0-3, 4.91 ERA) was the scheduled starter for Buffalo, but he was called up to the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday leaving an opening for the starter.
