Islam explained

The Masjid Saad Foundation, 4225 W. Alexis Rd., Sylvania, is presenting “Misconceptions about Islam: In Which We Help You Adjust Your Malarky Filter” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, the second installment of its “The Jesus Fatwah: Loving Your Muslim Neighbor as Yourself” series.

The 90-minute program will include a showing of a short video in which Islamic and Christian scholars offer insight into what Muslims believe, how they live out their faith, and how we all can be about building relationships across the lines of faith.

Fun with nuns

Sister Act, a play based on the 1992 comedy that featured comedian Whoopi Goldberg as a woman seeking refuge among nuns, will be performed by the Genoa Area High School Musical Theatre on March 23 through March 26.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. except for Sunday, when showtime’s at 2:30 p.m. The play will be at the high school, 2980 N. Genoa Clay Center Rd., Genoa.

MultiFaith banquet

The MultiFaith Council of Northwest Ohio has announced its 16th annual banquet will be devoted to the Toledo Symphony’s act of compassion in response to the hate crime in January in which a Sylvania Township homeowner’s garage door was defaced in January with disparaging words toward Muslims.

Keynote speaker will be Sara Jobin, the symphony’s resident conductor. The event will be at the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo, 25877 Scheider Rd., Perrysburg, from 3 to 7 p.m. April 23. Cost is $25 for adults and $5 for students ages 12 through 21. They can be purchased online at conta.cc/2mGSZFk.

Suds and sacred hymns

Maumee Valley Presbytery is hosting is third “Beer and Hymns” sing-a-long at 7 p.m. March 26 inside the Black Cloister Brewing Co., 619 Monroe St.

The local event, which lasts about an hour, was created last fall by the Rev. Patrick Harley, pastor of Ottawa Presbyterian Church in Putnam County, in response to a growing trend nationally for some devoted hymn-singers to wet their whistles with various brewed combinations that often include malt, barley, hops, and yeast.

Get jazzed tonight

First Presbyterian Church, 200 E. Broadway, is hosting a special jazz concert at 7 p.m. today, featuring Ramona Collins on vocals, Ron Kischuk on trombone, Gene Parker on piano, Jeff Halsey on bass, and Damen Cook on drums.

Byrd Polar speaker

Jason Cervenec of Ohio State University’s internationally known Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center is speaking about religion’s role in climate change at 7 p.m. March 24 at St. John XXIII Catholic Community, 24250 Dixie Hwy., Perrysburg.
