‘Walk With Me’

The Maumee Indoor Theatre will screen Walk With Me, a documentary that explores a Zen Buddhist community in rural France, at 6:30 p.m. Monday. It will be hosted by Deborah Ayres, a Sylvania-area medicine woman, life coach, and licensed massage therapist, and introduced by Jay Rinsen Weik, abbot of the Greater Heartlands Buddhist Temple of Toledo.

Mr. Weik will begin the evening with a presentation on the significance of the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh, the Zen Buddhist master who is featured prominently in the documentary. He will also comment on the presence of Zen Buddhism in today’s world. The film will begin at 7:15 p.m. and will be followed by an open discussion. Walk With Me is narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch.

Tickets are $13.50 and must be purchased in advance at gathr.us/screening/21218. The Maumee Indoor Theatre is at 601 Conant St., Maumee.

Arts and crafts bazaar

Epworth United Methodist Women are hosting their annual arts and crafts bazaar on Saturday. It runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church, 4855 Central Ave., and all proceeds will benefit local nonprofits geared toward women and children.

Fifty artists and crafters are set to participate in the bazaar with a variety of items that include jewelry, soaps, lotions, wooden toys, and knitted items. A silent auction will additionally feature about 200 unusual items, including themed baskets, invitations to dinners hosted by church members, and an opportunity to throw the first pitch at a Mud Hens game. The bazaar has in past years raised between $14,000 and $17,000 for area nonprofits.

Mass for Veterans

Immaculate Conception Catholic Church is extending a special invitation to veterans at its 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday. Two Honor Guards and members of the ROTC at Springfield Local High School will participate in the service. The church is at 434 Western Ave.

The Veterans Mass is more extensive this year than in previous years, as it is part of a year of programming that the congregation is undertaking in anticipation of the 150th anniversary of the parish in 2018. Parishioners have been organizing monthly events or gatherings since August, when a community day celebration kicked off the year of activities.

‘Blue Holidays’

The Mental Health Faith Council will host a “Blue Holidays” service and reception at Hope Lutheran Church on Sunday. The service will invite individuals of all faiths to recognize and pray for those for who do not see the holiday season as joyful because of emotions like fear, anxiety or grief.

Hohenbrink

Christian Lecture Series at University of Findlay

Msgr. Michael Hohenbrink will continue the DeBow and Catherine Freed Contemporary Christian Lecture Series at the University of Findlay with a free presentation on Wednesday. Monsignor Hohenbrink retired in June from St. Michael Parish in Findlay, where he had since 2000 been serving a congregation that today counts 10,000 members.

The monsignor will offer “Reflections on the Impact of a Lifetime of Service in the Catholic Ministry” at the lecture, which begins at 7:30 p.m. at Winebrenner Theological Seminary, 950 N. Main St., Findlay. It is open to the public.
