J.C. Penney is postponing the liquidation sales and closures of 138 stores nationwide, including in Findlay.

The retailer announced this year that it would close the stores, including four in Ohio, but now the company is pushing back the date. CNBC reported that the store closure list has prompted more customers to shop, which in turn led to the later shutdowns.

Liquidation sales will start May 22 and stores will close July 31. That’s about six weeks later than the initial schedule.

To be closed in Ohio are the Penney stores in Findlay Village Mall, in St. Mary’s Square shopping center, in New Towne Mall in New Philadelphia; and Richmond Town Square in Richmond Heights. About 5,000 workers will lose their jobs.
