Levis Commons Art Fair sets up for 14th year

More than 100 artists are participating this weekend in an annual art show in its 14th year at the Town Center at Levis Commons in Perrysburg.
The Levis Commons Fine Art Fair is one of six juried art shows organized by the Guild of Artists and Artisans, an association of independent artists founded in 1970 in Ann Arbor. The Guild also helps organize a section of the popular Ann Arbor Art Fair.
The artists, both local and from across the country, will feature work that includes ceramics, sculpture, painting, woodwork, jewelry, photography, glass, and other media. They will have booths set up in the open-air town center from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Weekend events will also include live entertainment and a children’s art activities center operated by students from Toledo School for the Arts from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Levis Commons is at the intersection of I-475 and State Rt. 25 in Perrysburg.

■ The theme of Thursday’s monthly art loop in downtown Toledo is “The Dog Days of Summer + Cats,” and will feature exhibitions of pet-themed art, pet portraits, and other dog and cat-themed activities.
The Third Thursday Art Loop is organized by the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo and is a self-guided tour of the downtown’s art events, live entertainment, and restaurants from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
Evening events include Adoption Row sponsored by local organizations, a mini-catvention pop-up at Handmade Toledo titled Meowledo, tips and tricks to improve your dog’s behavior by Glass City K9 trainers, and sales of pet-themed art.

■ The Toledo Museum of Art is offering interactive storytelling workshops on the theme of family.
The sessions revolve around an upcoming exhibition at the museum, Frank Hals Portraits: A Family Reunion. Through a partnership with the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, it was revealed that an Old Master painting of the Van Campen family from the 17th Century was cut into sections more than 200 years ago. The piece in Brussels, as well as a third piece in a private collection, will be reunited with the section of canvas owned by the Toledo museum, Van Campen Family Portrait in a Landscape, and will be on display in an expanded show of Hals’ work at TMA from Oct. 13 through Jan. 6.
The storytelling sessions will revolve around the theme of what family means in 2018 and will offer participants experience in storytelling methodology. The sessions will be held at 7 p.m. on several Thursdays in September, October, and November. The workshops are free.

■ The summer winds down with end-of-season art classes by several galleries and art organizations.
Both children and adults can take clay and pottery classes through 10-week courses offered by the Toledo Potters’ Guild.
The classes will be one day a week — Tuesdays or Thursdays for adults and on Wednesdays for children — starting Sept. 10.

The Fuller Art House in Sylvania is offering a mini flowers paintings course with artist Kati Kleimola from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and an abstract class with artist Julie Draeger from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 30.
The gallery is also offering an eight-week class workshop with watercolor artist Larry Golba.
The classes will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 15, 22, and 29, Oct. 6, 13, 20, and 27, and Nov. 3.

Art Supply Depo, in locations in downtown Toledo and in Bowling Green, is offering classes for end-of-summer and fall, including its last plein air sessions of the season with artist Aaron Pickens on Saturday and Sept. 15.
Classes vary from painting and drawing with different tools to mixed media courses.
