FINDLAY — A local hotel developer has secured approval to build a 112-room Holiday Inn Express on Findlay’s west side, near the intersection of I-75 and U.S. 224.

Whitson Properties plans to break ground on the $11.5 million project in June. Construction is expected to take a year.

The new hotel will replace an existing but smaller Holiday Inn Express that Whitson operates nearby. John Whitson said that, once the new hotel is complete, the company likely will rebrand the existing hotel.

“That hotel routinely sells out, but it is 20 years old,” Mr. Whitson said.

The company opened the Hilton Garden Inn in 2014. The new Holiday Inn Express will be directly across the street.
