DELTA, Ohio — Robert Morr, Jr., 72, a retired social studies teacher at area schools and a community volunteer, died Saturday at his Delta home.

He died of bladder cancer after battling the disease for about a year, his wife of 46 years, Kathryn Morr, said.

Mr. Morr taught social studies for 30 years, most recently at Delta High School, from which he retired in 1996 after 16 years of service. Before that, he taught at Evergreen High School in Metamora, Ohio.

He also coached high school football for 40 years. He was the head football coach at Evergreen High, then an assistant coach at Swanton High School and, most recently, at Delta High School, where he continued to coach in his retirement through about 2013, his wife said.

From 1997 to 2010, Mr. Morr also volunteered for the Delta Fire Department as a firefighter and emergency medical technician.

“He was patient with his children, students, and his football players,” Mrs. Morr said. “He enjoyed watching them develop into responsible adults. And he was very proud of their accomplishments.”

“He was honest with everyone,” Mrs. Morr added. “You could trust his word. He was never outwardly derogatory to anyone, no matter race, religion, or creed. And he led by example.”

Mr. Morr was born in Wauseon April 16, 1945 to Robert Morr, Sr. and Eileen Morr.

He was raised in Delta, where he graduated from Delta High in 1963. He then continued his education at Adrian College. He graduated from there in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in education. He was on the college football team for two years until he suffered a knee injury, Mrs. Morr said.

In 1971, Mr. Morr married a fellow teacher, Kathryn Morr, whose maiden name was Breuer, after they first met at their teaching jobs in Franklin, Ohio.

In his free time, he enjoyed being with his family and attending athletic events and performances featuring his children, grandchildren, and students.

His hobbies included traveling, and buying, restoring, and selling antique furniture.

He was a member of Delta United Methodist Church and the Fulton County Historical Society.

Surviving are his wife; sons, Doug Morr and Darren Morr, brother, Gary Morr, and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 State Rt. 109, Delta.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Delta United Methodist Church, 101 Northwood Drive.

The family suggests tributes to the Delta Fire Department for the youth program, Delta Recreational Park Council for the park walk path, or the Fulton County Historical Society for the new building fund.
