Masquerade-must-go-on-I

Masquerade must go on: It was a dark and stormy night on October 31, 1963. But weather didn’t deter youngsters from taking to the streets to plead their cases for Halloween candy. Witches waded and ghosts sloshed around Toledo and its suburbs, but there was some good news. Residents were still handing out candy and the foul weather kept mischief to a minimum. Toledo Blade photographer Bruce Dale toughed out the soggy night and snapped this photo of, from left, Janet Weathers, 7, Sayne Jackson, 4, and his sister Marcia Jackson, 6, on their appointed trick-or-treat rounds in their Toledo neighborhood. Here's hoping this weekend's weather will be kinder to the trick-or-treaters than it was 52 years ago. The new street sweeper, painted to promote cancer awareness, was introduced at a special program at the headquarters of Streets, Bridges & Harbor of the City of Toledo on October 23, 2015. The event coincides with Streets, Bridges & Harbor Employee Appreciation Day, sponsored by Kuhlman Corporation.
