ADRIAN — Officials say an engine problem is what caused a small private plane crash Friday near the Lenawee County Airport, injuring the two people on board, according to the The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office.

Johanna Walker, 52, of Tecumseh Mich. was giving a flight lesson in a single-engine plane to Jason Roan, 49, of Sand Creek, Mich. when their engine lost power while returning to the Lenawee County Airport, according to a sheriff’s office media release.

The plan crashed at a treeline in a field near Lyons Highway and Gorman Road, about two miles south of the airport. The plane broke apart in the crash, with part of it becoming caught in a tree, Undersheriff Bevier said Friday.

Ms. Walker and Mr. Roan were at the site without aid until about 2:20 p.m., when Ms. Walker managed to walk to a nearby road and flag down a motorist who called 911.

Mr. Roan and Ms. Walker are still in serious condition, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
