A Toledo man charged with setting fire to a mattress inside his ex-girlfriend’s apartment pleaded guilty Tuesday to aggravated arson.

Jonathan Weidner, 37, of the 2500 block of Locust Street, faces up to 11 years in prison when he is sentenced March 13 by Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Ian English. The judge told him he also would be deemed an arson offender who must register his address for the rest of his life.

As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors said they would ask the court to dismiss four additional counts of aggravated arson and one count of violating a protection order.

Weidner, who has been held in the Lucas County jail, admitted starting the fire July 7 at the Vanderbilt Place Apartments, 5730 Dorr St., endangering residents and firefighters.
