The Toledo Fire Department, in cooperation with ProMedica, will be placing an Ohio historical marker Friday at the now ProMedica headquarters to recognize a fallen firefighter, who died at one of the city’s largest fires more than a century ago.

Capt. James Fraser died on Jan. 3, 1894, during a large fire that broke out at the King-Quale Grain Elevator on Madison Avenue and Water Street. The blaze also destroyed the Chamber of Commerce and the West & Truax building.

Captain Fraser went missing, but crews could not find his body. He was recognized during Toledo Fire Department’s 56th annual Memorial Service.
