The Wood County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a phone scam.

Residents were called by a scammer identifying himself as a deputy. The victims were told they missed jury duty and warrants were issued for their arrest.

The victims were told that if they don’t want to be arrested, they must purchase money cards and give the caller the card information.

The sheriff’s office will never call residents and demand money, deputies said in a statement.

Anyone with information about the scam should call the sheriff’s office at 419-354-9001.
