Two East Toledo men critically injured in separate assaults

Two East Toledo men were critically injured after they were separately assaulted this past weekend, according to Toledo police.

One of men, Tyler Tuite, 21, of the 1000 block of Front Street, was assaulted while walking with his 1-year-old son, said his sister, Ashlee Tuite. 

Mr. Tuite was pushing his son in a stroller in the 300 block of East Broadway Street in East Toledo at about 11:42 a.m. Saturday, Ms. Tuite said. He was going to see his girlfriend — also the child’s mother — at work, Ms. Tuite said. 

At least two men jumped out of a vehicle and began assaulting Mr. Tuite, his sister said. A resident in the area saw the incident and grabbed Mr. Tuite’s son, pulling him to safety, Ms. Tuite said. Another neighbor reportedly called 911, his sister said.

When they arrived, officers found Mr. Tuite unconscious on the sidewalk, police reported. He was taken to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center with critical injuries, police said.

Ms. Tuite commended the response and work of first responders.

“My brother didn’t have to lay there unconscious for very long. He was left there on the side of the road, left in a pile of blood — just laying there,” she said. 

One of men who assaulted Mr. Tuite reportedly struck him in the head with a concrete block. Ms. Tuite said they hit him in the head several times and he had groove marks from a shoe on the side of his head. 

Mr. Tuite reportedly has swelling and bleeding in his brain, a broken neck, and internal bleeding, his sister said. 

Ms. Tuite said her brother remains in critical condition. On Monday, a hospital spokesman did not have information for a patient under that name. 

Separately, police responded to Mercy Health St. Charles Hospital at 6 a.m. Saturday for a person who had serious injuries from an attack. 

Eric Roberts, age not reported, of the 2300 block of Seaman Road was critically injured in the 2500 block of Consaul Street in East Toledo, police said. 

At the time, Mr. Roberts was unable to give a statement. 

On Monday, he was listed in fair condition, a hospital spokesman said. 

No charges have been filed in either incident.
