An Oakwood, Ohio, man awaiting trial in the shooting death of his grandson died Tuesday at a hospital in Toledo, Paulding County Sheriff Jason K. Landers said in a statement Wednesday.

Mr. Miller had been hospitalized for unspecified “medical issues” and died of natural causes, authorities said.

He was transferred to a psychiatric hospital shortly after he was booked in May at the Paulding County jail, and then was transferred to another hospital Sept. 15 because of other health issues, the sheriff said.
