MONROE — Monroe police are searching for a suspected gunman after the shooting death of a man Tuesday evening.
Just after 8 p.m., officers responded to a report of gunfire in the 300 block of Kentucky Avenue, police said. Officers found two victims — a 38-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman — with gunshot wounds.
The man was pronounced dead, and the woman was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life threatening. Their names have not yet been released.
The suspected gunman, a 23-year-old man, has not been located, Monroe police Capt. John D. Wall said.
Detectives determined that the victims arrived at the location and the suspect was inside the home, Captain Wall said. A verbal fight preceded the shooting. All three individuals knew each other, he said.
“It isn’t like this was some random drive-by,” he said.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident IS encouraged to call the Monroe Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 734-243-7517 or 734-243-7510.
