A shooting Monday in East Toledo left a 16-year-old girl dead and grazed another victim, authorities said.
Alexia Carey, 16, was taken to an area hospital where she later died from her injuries, according to police.

Officers responded to a person shot about 3:40 p.m. in the 2000 block of Nevada Street in East Toledo. The Carey youth was struck in the torso and taken to a nearby hospital. A second victim was grazed, remained on scene, and is expected to recover, police said.
One neighbor told me he heard five or six shots, and saw the gunman fire four of them. The shooting wasn't surprising, he said. "It's the east side, any more."

One neighbor, Al Coehrs, 57, told The Blade he heard a total of five or six shots in quick secession. Mr. Coehrs added he wasn’t surprised by the afternoon’s events, but said it was unnerving.

David Perez, 50, was driving in the area when he saw a group of people running. He saw the victims nearby, and attempted to provide first aid.
Mr. Perez described the scene as “heart crushing,” and said he would pray for the family.
“I hope and pray I never have to go through this again, but if not, I have to do what I have to do. I was worried about getting shot,” Mr. Perez said.
