A Toledo police officer was injured while attempting to take an armed robbery suspect into custody Sunday evening.
At about 5:44 p.m., officers responded to the Gas & Go at 1410 Starr Ave., for a shots-fired call, according to police records. While en route, officers were told that a man was seen entering the store with a gun and a mask covering his face. Witnesses at the scene told officers the masked man fled down Raymer Boulevard toward Nevada Street.
Police crews spotted Ronald Munn, 32, in the alley between the 600 block of Valleywood Drive and Raymer. Upon seeing the officers, Mr. Munn fled toward Valleywood and Hurd Street, records show. A perimeter was set up in the area, and as crews were checking yards, a noise was heard from inside a vacant house. When officers went to check the house, Mr. Munn opened the front door, spotted police, and fled out the back of the house.
Officer Megan Schwirzinski confronted Mr. Munn in the backyard and began taking him into custody when he began fighting with her. Officer Schwirzinski injured her left shoulder, and Mr. Munn broke free and fled toward Raymer, records show.
Police caught Mr. Munn in the 600 block of White Street and took him into custody. He is charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. He appeared in Toledo Municipal Court and bond was set at $100,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 9.
Officer Schwirzinski was taken to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center for treatment.
