Motorcyclist injured in three-vehicle crash

A motorcyclist was injured Tuesday in a crash that closed Holland-Sylvania Road between Airport Highway and Angola Road for about two hours, state troopers said.

The motorcyclist, Ryan Powers, 39, was taken to ProMedica Toledo Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

Mr. Powers was trying to turn left from eastbound Venture Drive to northbound Holland-Sylvania about 4:20 p.m. when he was struck by a southbound sport utility vehicle that did not yield at the right light, said troopers at the Toledo post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The motorcycle and Mr. Powers then struck a northbound tractor-trailer, as did the SUV.

The SUV driver, Angelo Smith, 27, of Toledo, and the semi driver, David Schmidlin, 57, of Grand Rapids, Ohio, were not injured. They wore seat belts. Mr Powers did not wear a helmet.
