A change in the I-475/U.S. 23 traffic pattern through the work zone between Angola Road and Bancroft street will require lane and ramp closings Saturday and Sunday nights, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced.
From 6 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday, southbound traffic will be shifted from its current lanes to the newly built left half of the widened freeway, ODOT said. While the new traffic pattern is being set up, the Central Avenue entrance to southbound I-475/U.S. 23 will be closed, with traffic detoured via northbound U.S. 23 to the Monroe Street interchange, then back south.
From 6 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday, the freeway’s northbound traffic will be shifted similarly to the newly built inside lanes. No ramps will be affected by the northbound shift, but freeway traffic will be reduced to one lane at least part of the time.
The new pattern will allow I-475’s existing lanes in the area to be rebuilt and construction to proceed on new interchange ramps at Dorr Street. The new interchange and third lane in each direction between Bancroft and Airport Highway are scheduled to open next summer.
“The traffic switch this weekend is another major milestone in this project’s progress,” said Dan Kelsey, ODOT’s project engineer. “It’s exciting to get traffic onto the newly built inside lanes of I-475 and the bridges.”
