City residents invited to town hall meeting on regional water commission

Toledoans are invited to a town hall meeting to learn more about the impact of forming a regional water commission, which is up for a vote in November.

Toledo City Councilman Tyrone Riley is hosting the meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Gesu Church Sullivan Center, 2049 Parkside Blvd.

City council last month approved placing a question on the ballot that, if approved, would amend the city’s charter and create a new commission responsible for managing the city’s drinking water system and determining water rates.

The ballot question is the culmination of two years of meetings between Toledo officials and leaders from the suburbs that purchase Toledo’s water working to form a regional system. If approved, the new commission would be tasked with setting equitable water rates for all customers and making decisions about upgrades to the system’s infrastructure.
