Monroe County holding walk-in clinic for hepatitis A vaccine Saturday

MONROE—The Monroe County Health Department will hold another free walk-in clinic for hepatitis A vaccines from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. 

This comes after a second employee at the Tim Hortons restaurant at 404 S. Monroe St., was diagnosed with the liver disease.

Health officials are offering vaccines for customers who ate or drank products at the restaurant from Dec. 10-28, as well as for food service workers, and first responders. Vaccines are available at the department, 2353 S. Custer Rd.

There are 14 confirmed cases of hepatitis A in Monroe County, county health officials said Thursday, which are part of a larger outbreak of 630 cases in southeast Michigan.

Symptoms include fatigue, poor appetite, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, and jaundice, according to the county health department. Symptoms typically appear two to six weeks after exposure.
