BOWLING GREEN — Former University of Memphis guard Alyssa Dean has transferred to Bowling Green State University and has joined the women’s basketball program.

Dean, who was on the Falcons’ bench for Saturday’s home game against Ball State, is a Columbus native who enrolled at BG this semester.

NCAA transfer rules require her to sit out one year, a span that will begin with the just-started spring semester. Dean will be eligible to play for the Falcons when the fall 2018 semester ends and will be a redshirt sophomore with two years of eligibility after next season ends.

A 5-foot-8 guard, Dean played in seven games for Memphis this season, starting twice, and averaged 4.1 points and 1.1 rebounds per game. She started the opener against Tennessee State and scored 10 points with three assists, but did not play for the Tigers after a Nov. 29 contest against IUPUI.

Dean sat out the 2016-17 season at Memphis as a redshirt. She suffered an ACL injury during the summer before her senior year of high school and did not play as a high school senior in 2015-16.

As a junior at Centennial High School, Dean averaged 21.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists and earned second-team All-Ohio honors in Division II that season.

Dean was a three-year starter for the Stars. As a sophomore, she averaged 17.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 2.5 steals to earn honorable mention All-Ohio. Her freshman season, she averaged 14.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 3.7 steals and was honorable mention All-Ohio.

Dean finished with 1,243 career points at Centennial as well as 243 rebounds, 160 assists, and 199 steals.

The Falcons return to action Wednesday when they play at Central Michigan.
