Funkhouser, Hall earn promotions to Toledo

    Tigers prospect Kyle Funkhouser has been called up to Toledo after spending this in Double-A Erie.

  • Right-handed pitcher Kyle Funkhouser and left-handed pitcher Matt Hall were assigned Tuesday to the Toledo Mud Hens from Double-A Erie.

    The Mud Hens released relievers Junichi Tazawa and Mark Montgomery on Monday.

    Funkhouser, the No. 7-rated Detroit Tigers prospect according to MLB.com, was a fourth-round pick by the team in the 2016 MLB Draft.

    In 17 starts at Erie this season, Funkhouser is 4-5 with a 3.74 ERA with 89 strikeouts and 39 walks in his 89 innings pitched.

    Hall, the Tigers’ No. 23 prospect, was a sixth-round pick by the team in the 2015 draft. He is 5-2 this season with a 1.58 ERA in 57 innings pitched. He has appeared mostly as a reliever this season, but has made four starts.

    Hall is the reigning Eastern League Pitcher of the Week after he went 2-0 in two starts with 12⅓ scoreless innings. He has won his past three starts without allowing a run.

    The first-place Mud Hens return to action after the all-star break Thursday, when they start a four-game series at second-place Indianapolis. Toledo holds a half-game lead on the Indians in the International League West Division.
