PITTSBURGH — Toledo’s women’s basketball team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end with a 73-54 loss at Duquesne in Wednesday’s nonconference game at the A.J. Palumbo Center. With the setback, the Rockets fall to 6-2 on the season.

The Dukes (8-2) connected on 11 three-point field goals, shooting a blistering 47.8 percent (11-of-23) from beyond the arc, to hand UT its first loss in more than three weeks.

Chassidy Omogrosso and Julijana Vojinovic did the bulk of DU’s damage from 3-point range with four treys each, while Kadri-Ann Lass had two. Omogrosso led Duquesne with a game-high 19 points, followed by Vojinovic and Lass with 18 and 12, respectively.

Junior Kaayla McIntyre paced Toledo with 14 points, seven rebounds, and a season-high three steals, while classmate Olivia Cunningham had 10 points.

As a team, the Rockets shot 35.5 percent (22-of-62) from the floor, including, 21.1 percent (4-of-19) on 3-pointers, and 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from the charity stripe.

Another difference was Duquesne’s ability to get points off UT miscues. The Rockets were guilty of 16 turnovers, and the Dukes translated those miscues into 22 points.

Duquesne broke open a close game with a 12-4 run over the final 4:42 of the second quarter to take a 39-31 lead at halftime. It proved to be an advantage they would not relinquish.

The Dukes stayed hot from the perimeter in the third quarter, as Vojinovic and Omogrosso converted two treys each to extend UT’s deficit to 57-47.

The Rockets were unable to get closer than nine points for the rest of the game as their six-winning streak against Atlantic 10 Conference opponents also came to an end.

The Rockets next play on Saturday when they host Cleveland State, scheduled for a 2 p.m. tipoff in Savaage Arena.
