Senior wrestler Austin Eick has a 26-0 record this season for Rossford, and the senior has broken the school’s record for wins in a career with 149 victories.

Eick qualified for the state tournament at 138 pounds last season and went 1-2 in Columbus. He finished his junior season with a 44-11 record. This year, he has moved up to 145 pounds.

A four-year starter with a career record of 149-32, Eick also is a three-sport standout.

Coach Randy Hussar said what makes Eick a special athlete is his ability to lead, his work ethic, and his eagerness to learn.

“He always sets a great example for the younger wrestlers with his leadership off the mat and on the mat,” Hussar said. “He is very respected by his teammates. He has been one of the top performers since his freshman year.”

Hussar said Eick has good footwork on the mat.

“He has great speed that allows him to score early,” Hussar said. “His top wrestling is fantastic, and he can control the match at all times.”

In football, Eick played quarterback, wide receiver, and defensive back. Eick completed 69 of 134 passes for 1,077 yards and eight touchdowns while also rushing for 345 yards on 62 carries with four touchdowns. He caught 16 passes for 179 yards and three scores. Eick also earned second team All-Northern Buckeye Conference honors as a defensive back and had 25.5 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss for the Bulldogs (4-6).

An outfielder in baseball, Eick earned second-team All-NBC second team last year when he finished with a .339 batting average, 10 runs batted in, and 10 stolen bases for the Bulldogs (20-6).

“He also understands that he is a student first, and he gets great grades,” Hussar said.
